A
Day on the Lake with the Smith Family
| Canton Lake is a "Hot Spot" for many
in Fulton County especially during the summer months. Not only will
you find great fishing but you will find some of the friendliest
people around. They all enjoy the fishing, waterskiing, jet-skiing,
swimming, hiking, camping, canoeing, or just leisurely boating around
taking in the sun and having a good time meeting people on the lake. |
|
| One of the families you may meet on the lake is
the Smith Family; who practically live on the lake during the summer.
Jerry & Tammy Smith and their two boys Caleb and Cameron enjoy
the water almost as much as the fish they catch. This day in late
August I accompanied them, along with Ron & June Hammond, relaxing
under the canopy of their pontoon boat enjoying a cold drink and
talking with everyone we met. |

| Jerry works for Kress Manufacturing in Brimfield,
IL as Supervisor Machine Operations and enjoys boating with his
family on Canton Lake and the Illinois River in his leisure time.
Tammy is employed by Spoon River College in their Business Office
and also loves to spend time on the boat with her family, and oh
yes, their dog Hershe. |
|
| The two boys go to school in Canton but like all
red-blooded American boys they love it when school is out and they
can play on the lake all day. When not going to school or playing
on the lake Caleb loves to play his guitar and Cameron enjoys baseball.

Ron and June Hammond claim to be retired but one has to wonder if
that is true never finding them at home. Ron is retired from Caterpillar
but still works for Buells Marine from time-to-time. June is retired
from Graham Hospital, but has worked for the school system in Canton
in the past, and still works for the Kelly Home in Canton as a fill
in when others are unavailable. Their main job is having fun which
they are very good at. |

A day on Canton Lake is a great
time with every kind of sport one can think of. The picturesque
views are stunning, but what makes the lake special are the people,
and the people don’t get any better than the Smiths.
Thank you Jerry & Tammy for making
our lake a wonderful place to spend a day…
