Fulton County lies in West Central Illinois with its southeastern border bounded for over thirty miles by the Illinois River. Spoon River flows for nearly forty miles in a southeasterly direction from London Mills at the northern boundary of Fulton County to the Illinois River near the crossing point of U.S. Highway 136. Much of Fulton County is farm country and timberland. The many areas of woods and water provide an abundance of outdoor activities including great fishing, hunting hiking, biking skiing, and water sports of all kinds. Join us! Canton Friendship Festival 2009 The Canton Friendship Festival was in full swing last Friday with crowds enjoying the agriculture during the day and the bright lights of the vendors, games, rides, and the Country Music melodies of Missy Vail. Oh yes, and let’s not forget the food. One may not think that a Lemon Shakeup goes with a Foot-long Corndog very well, yet seeing how people have to wait months in some cases to enjoy the two, it is understandable. Missy Vail started her Country Music Show at 5:00pm last Friday night and entertained an audience for nearly five hours. In our interview I found out that she has been singing since she was a child, but took time out to earn a Bachelor, and then a Masters Degree, from Western Illinois University. She also took time out to start a family and has one little girl. When performing Missy, along with her family and band, travel the roads entertaining people all over the country. Missy is not just your run of the mill performer singing in every dive and whole in the wall, but a professional that stays clear of bars and sings for large crowds; crowds as large as 24,000 adoring fans. Her parents are also an active and supportive part of her career, and when on the road her mother takes care of the merchandising and the promotion of her name, while her father drives them wherever her performances may lead them. From what I was able to gather Missy was a very kind and loving soul that enjoyed talking to her fans extending her hand to anyone that she greeted and took the time to autograph pictures for anyone who would ask.
